Estructurada en tres partes, esta obra desarrolla una concepción de Latinoamérica centrada en la imaginación creadora (representada por el mezcal); la energía emocional y sentimental (representada por el volcán), y el obscuro laberinto político (representada por los comisarios), que caracterizan al continente. Malcolm Lowry, desde su percepción como extranjero, propone estos tres núcleos para configurar y entender la existencia latinoamericana. Los tres paneles se ordenan respectivamente en composiciones simétricas, que semejan volcanes humeantes. En todos ellos preside, como emblema, la hoja de una planta. Diferentes para cada panel, pero igualados en su naturaleza autóctona.

Structured in three parts, this work develops a conception of Latin America centred on the creative imagination (represented by mezcal); the emotional and sentimental energy (represented by the volcano); and the dark political labyrinth (represented by the secret police), which characterize the continent. Malcolm Lowry, from his perceptions as a foreigner, proposed these three elements to order and understand the Latin American reality. The three panels are arranged in symmetrical compositions, which resemble smoky volcanoes. In all of them, the leaf of a plant presides as an emblem, different for each panel, but matched in their indigenous nature.

Malcolm Lowry, depuis sa perception d’étranger, propose ces trois noyaux pour configurer et comprendre l’existence latino-américaine. Les trois panneaux s’ordonnent respectivement en compositions symétriques, qui rappellent les volcans fumants. Dans chacun d’eux préside, comme emblème, la feuille d’une plante, différentes pour chaque panneau, mais identiques dans leur nature indigène.
